There is a mythical history behind the Shiva’s House of Ponabalia. There is a story of Sattyauog (the first of the four yugas or ages), story of the king Dakkharaj, story of Shiva and story of Durga. A part of scattered body of Durga, nose, had been fallen here. After that, in the Bangla year 900, the figure of Shiva came into being.  Every Year huge number of people gathered in this holy place of the Hindus. Not only have the devotees of Shiva but also community attended the fair forgetting their community identity.
