There is a horrendous history of communalism centering round Shohidia Mosque which is considered as an infamous chapter in the history of Jhalokathi. The mosque was built in the village of kulkathi, Nalchity Upazila in 1926. A British magistrate was made to misunderstand about a matter. As a result, a collision occurred among the local Hindus, Muslim and British Police.  As a result, 19 people of devounted muslim wee killed on the spot and more than hundred people were injured. To keep the memory of the martyrs in the incident alive in the heart of the common people, the mosque was named Shohida Mosque.
